The Lane Bryant women’s clothing chain, which features fashions for “plus sized” customers, has claimed that the Fox and ABC networks have refused to air lingerie ads for its store. “ABC and Fox have made the decision to define beauty for you by denying our new, groundbreaking Cacique commercial from airing freely on their networks,” the company said on its InsideCurve blog. It accused ABC of refusing to air the spot on Dancing with the Stars and said Fox “demanded excessive re-edits” and only agreed to air it on American Idol only after the clothing company threatened to pull all its advertising off the network. “While it’s no secret that Victoria’s Secret ‘The Nakeds’ ads are prancing around on major networks leaving little to the imagination, steaming up TV screens and baring nearly everything but their souls, our sultry siren who shows sophisticated sass is somehow deemed inappropriate,” the company said, adding, “Does this smack of a double standard? Yep. It does to us, too.” The networks have not responded.
