Ordinarily, any TV series that debuts with 11.56 million viewers would be regarded as potentially a big new hit. Unless that show’s lead-in was Dancing with the Stars with 21.56 million viewers. That was the case Monday night as Romantically Challenged premiered on ABC. Making its numbers appear even more embarrassing — if not outright disturbing — for the network, was the fact that they included a spill-over audience from the last two minutes of DWTS and they were bested by a rerun of The Big Bang Theory on CBS, which pulled in 11.67 million viewers. The new show also appeared to hurt ABC’s fledgling series Castle, which followed. Its audience — 10.5 million viewers — was down 18 percent from a week ago when the series attracted 13.2 million viewers and ranked first in its time period, beating CBS’s perennial hit, CSI: Miami. This week, however, the CSI series regained first place in the hour with 11.6 million viewers.
