Bob and Harvey Weinstein are the only ones left in the current bidding for Walt Disney’s Co.’s Miramax Films, the company they founded and sold to Disney in 1993 for $70 million. Disney reportedly is seeking ten times that figure for what is essentially the Miramax library. The Los Angeles Times reported today (Friday) that Disney has pushed back the deadline for submitting bids for Miramax to April 5 while the Weinsteins discuss the possibility of making a joint offer with billionaire investor Ron Burkle. The Times also reported that brothers Alec and Tom Gores, who run separate investment firms, are also planning to submit a bid that could also involve the Weinsteins.
