HOLLYWOOD VIDEO FOUNDER JOINS DIGITAL STORE FRANCHISE
Joe Malugen, a co-founder with Harrison Parrish of the bankrupt and now shuttered Movie Gallery and Hollywood Video rental stores, has joined Point.360, operator of the new Movie>Q rental stores, which replaces most of the usual video store’s employees with robots. Malugen was forced out of the video rental company in 2008. It was not clear what his function in the new company will be. The first Movie>Q outlet opened in April in Westminster, CA and is reporting better-than-expected business. Movies and games rent for $1-2 a day, and the outlet keeps 10,000-15,000 DVDs and games in stock.
