CBS STATIONS IN L.A. GO DARK

The two CBS Inc.-owned TV stations in Los Angeles were off the air for about an hour on Monday, beginning at 3:20 p.m. following what a Los Angeles Dept. of Water and Power spokesperson described as a “voltage dip” in the Studio City area where the two stations are located. Oddly, the power abnormality did not affect other businesses in the area. Most television stations in major markets are generally equipped with massive gas-fueled generators that kick in automatically in case of a power failure. It was not immediately known whether the two CBS stations were hooked in to such auxiliary equipment. An outage affecting two leading stations simultaneously in a major market for such a long period could result in a hefty loss of ad revenue.
