“GOLDEN AGE” RADIO PRODUCER HIMAN BROWN DEAD AT 99

Himan Brown, one of radio’s most prolific producers in its “golden age,” has died in New York at the age of 99. Programs that Brown created include Inner Sanctum Mysteries, The Adventures of the Thin Man, Dick Tracy, I Love a Mystery, and Grand Central Station. He was one of a handful of producers to continue to create audio drama into the 1980s. “I am firmly convinced that nothing visual can touch audio,” he told the New York Times in 2003. “I don’t need car chases. I don’t need mayhem. All I need to do is creak the door open, and visually your head begins to go. The magic word is imagination.”
