Joe Surnow, the creator of Fox’s 24, has assured admirers of President John F. Kennedy that they have nothing to worry about when it comes to his upcoming History Channel miniseries, The Kennedys. Referring to the outrage vented by such Kennedy associates as former presidential adviser Theodore Sorensen over a preliminary script that was leaked online, Surnow said, “It’s not fair because they looked at early drafts of a script that don’t even resemble the final draft. It was way too early for them to comment on it.” Surnow claimed that many of those who have attacked the miniseries have done so because they are aware that he is an outspoken Republican conservative. “They automatically assume this was going to be a hatchet job. They didn’t look further into it. The writer, Steve Kronish, is a liberal Democrat.” Surnow said that the miniseries will be timed to debut around the 50th anniversary of Kennedy’s inauguration next January. “For those looking to sustain the Camelot image, they’re worried. But they don’t need to be.”
