Gamblers long ago learned not to place bets on those regarded as sure winners on American Idol. Now, it appears that the same approach should be adopted for potential judges on the show. While only a week ago it was assumed that Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler would be replacing Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres on the hit talent show, it now appears that their deals are far from being wrapped up. Indeed, People magazine reported on its website Wednesday that the deal with Lopez has fallen apart. “Her demands got out of hand,” a source told the magazine. “Fox had just had enough.” Last week Tyler remarked that his negotiations with Fox and the Idol producers was a “work in progress.” But today’s (Thursday) New York Post reported that Tyler, the Aerosmith frontman, wants the job. Asked whether he can be “tough” on a young singer, Tyler replied, “I’m very judgmental of the guys in the band. I know when to say, ‘Don’t bore us — get to the chorus!’ and I think I’d bring credibility to that forum if I was asked to do it.”
