Add the name of David Westin to the hundreds of others who have departed ABC News over the past year. Westin, the president of the network’s news division, sent an email to his staff late Monday, saying only that he was stepping down because it was time for him “to move on.” He indicated that he would remain with the network until the end of the year while ABC looks for a replacement. The New York Times quoted a staff member as saying that Westin had decided to quit after a long-running conflict between him and network management over “the financial standing” of the news division. ABC/Disney TV group President Anne Sweeney, praising Westin, said, “[He] helped reinvent our news organization and positioned us for great success going forward,” she said.
