Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which was a disappointment at the domestic box office, where it grossed $90 million — it cost $200 million to make– but whose worldwide gross came to $327 million was a trifecta winner in its first week out on home video. The Disney film, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, was the No. 1 film on the DVD sales chart, the Blu-ray sales chart, and the DVD rental chart. While precise figures were not disclosed, Nielsen VideoScan First Alert said that the movie sold nearly twice as many copies as the No. 2 film, Summit Entertainment’s Letter to Juliet. Home Media magazine pointed out that nine of the 10 top-selling discs last week were new releases, with the season-three set of CBS’s The Big Bang Theory, released by Warner Home Video, coming in at No. 3, followed by the direct-to-video Barbie: A Fashion Fairytale, from Universal Studios, at No. 4 and Glee: The Complete First Season, from 20th Century Fox, at No. 5.
