CBS’s Survivor not only survived the move to Wednesday nights this season but prospered. The reality show warhorse attracted 12.47 million viewers in its season debut (Survivor: Nicaragua), a 7 percent improvement over the 11.66 million it drew last year on Thursday night. It was also a 78-percent increase over the 7.01 million who watched the network’s previous occupants of the Wednesday-night time slot a year ago, the canceled The New Adventures of Old Christine and Gary Unmarried. CBS also dominated the rest of the evening. Criminal Minds returned at 9:00 with 14.08 million viewers, followed by the series debut of The Defenders with 12.09 million. Among other newcomers, NBC’s Undercovers had a so-so debut with 8.57 million and ABC’s Better with You bowed with 7.97 million viewers. But ABC’s The Whole Truth flopped in the 10:00 p.m. hour with just 4.91 million viewers.
