Football once again drew a big crowd during primetime Sunday night as an NFL overrun on Fox at 7:00 p.m. drew 18.61 million viewers, while NBC’s Sunday Night Football between the Chicago Bears and the New York Giants averaged an almost identical 18.58 million viewers beginning at 8:30 p.m. Unlike most football telecasts, which generally peak in the last half, the SNF game got off to a sensational start with 19.90 million tuning in, then faded to 16.37 million in the final half hour. Of course, the fact that the game ended in a 17-3 win for the Giants may have had something to do with the decline. In Chicago, 54 percent of all households watched the home team suffer its first loss of the season. In New York, 22 percent tuned in. National ratings were up 19 percent over last season’s Week 4.
