PARKER SPITZER DRAWS MORE VIEWERS — BUT REMAINS IN LAST PLACE

Without the intense competition from broadcast TV and Monday Night Football on cable’s ESPN, the second night of CNN’s Parker Spitzer on Tuesday saw a small bump in the average number of viewers sampling the new “Crossfire”-type show; however, it remained in fourth place among the four news channels. According to Nielsen Research, Parker Spitzer drew 513,000 viewers, up from 454,000 on Monday. Interviewed on Neil Cavuto’s show on Fox News Wednesday, Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes was asked about the poor showing in the ratings of the new show. He replied: “It started out in a way that leaves room for improvement. … Give it a little while and see how it develops. What we have is a supportive directive that says get into the news, get into the issues, in an intelligent way. Don’t get into a shout fest.”
