Katie Couric is likely to sign a new deal to remain as anchor on the CBS Evening News at least through the 2012 presidential election when her contract comes up for renewal next year, TheDailyBeast.com’s Howard Kurtz said Tuesday, citing unnamed insiders. Kurtz said that Couric “is said to understand” that her salary, believed to be about $15 million a year, will have to come down. In an interview, Couric would only say, “I’ve never really talked about my salary. I think a lot of people in my business are paid handsomely.” But she acknowledged that she is thinking about alternative career moves if she is unable to reach a new deal with the network. “Obviously, I’m going to figure out where I think I could have a role, a strong role. I’ll have to think long and hard about the choices I have going forward.”
