The Los Angeles Times has discovered a little-known website operated by the Walt Disney Co. where users can rent or buy digital versions of some of the studio’s movies and watch them via Internet-connected TV sets, computers, and mobile devices. The website, disneymoviesonline.go.com, “debuted in May without fanfare” as a test for what is likely to become a major expansion of the company into online digital distribution, the newspaper indicated. In addition to renting and buying Disney videos, anyone who has already purchased a recent Disney or Pixar DVD or Blu-ray Disc title can have online access to the same movie by typing a “magic code” that comes with the disc into the “My Movie Library” page of the website. The Times says that the site is still in its test phase but that Disney plans to launch a major promotional campaign for it during the first half of 2011.
