OTHER SHOW-BIZ UNIONS HAIL SAG/AFTRA PACT WITH AMPTP
Given the fact that the early tentative agreement reached last weekend between the two principal actors’ unions, SAG and AFTRA, and the movie and producers’ group, the AMPTP, is likely to serve as a template for future industry negotiations, the reaction to it by other Hollywood guilds on Monday would appear to bode well for peace within the industry for the next several years. The new agreement made no breakthroughs in new media compensation for union members, the stumbling block in last year’s talks. Nevertheless, each of the major unions applauded the results, which included a significant boost in employer contributions to the unions’ costly health and pension funds and modest annual wage hikes. The Directors Guild of America is due to begin early negotiations with the AMPTP on November 15.
