COMCAST REJECTS WRITERS’ VOTE ON UNIONIZING

December 16, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Comcast has rejected a secret-ballot vote by writers working on Comcast’s E!, Style, and G4 cable network shows that overwhelmingly favored union representation by the Writers Guild of America. Balloting was overseen by Los Angeles City Council President Eric Garcetti. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, a Comcast spokesperson described the vote as “a non-binding poll in direct conflict with the NLRB-sanctioned process for union organizing.” Comcast has insisted on an NLRB-supervised vote on union representation, a demand that has been repeatedly rejected by the WGA, which claims that such an election can be used by Comcast to “terrorize workers and threaten their jobs.”
