Doug McKelway

Fox News has hired another reporter who was fired for making on-air comments that riled his bosses. The News Corp-owned cable network has brought aboard veteran Washington D.C. anchor Doug McKelway who was dismissed by WJLA-TV for “gross insubordination and misconduct” after making critical comments about Democrats in general and President Obama in particular in a live report. Writing in his Tyndall Report, which tracks the television news business, Andrew Tyndall said Wednesday that Fox News chief Roger Ailes “is being opportunistic” when he hires such controversial figures as McKelway, former CNN host Lou Dobbs, talk-show host Don Imus, and NPR commentator Juan Williams. “It’s a way to play the culture wars,” Tyndall remarked, adding, that Ailes is turning Fox into “the safety net network. If you say something outrageous, there’s still a paycheck waiting for you.”
