It seems like the stuff of an oldtime miniseries: the privileged daughter of a billionaire media mogul, feeling slighted by the father, who grooms his sons to succeed him, strikes out on her own and eventually creates one of the most successful production companies in all of the U.K., only in the end to sell it to her father’s company for a fortune.

Except for the ending, which has yet to be writ in indelible ink, that is essentially the plot outline of Elisabeth Murdoch’s experience as head of the British production company Shine. No deal betweeen her and her and Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp has been confirmed yet, but a spokesman for Shine said that it has appointed JP Morgan Co. to handle a possible sale. The London Daily Telegraph quoted sources as saying today (Friday) that the discussions between Shine and News Corp are “progressing well” but that a deal is “not yet inevitable.” Elisabeth Murdoch’s asking price is said to be between $1 billion and $1.3 billion.
