CREEPING DVD WINDOW CLOSINGS

February 23, 2011 by · 1 Comment

In an apparent effort to avoid antagonizing theater owners, studios have been slowly reducing the window between the time films play in theaters and the time they are released on home video, Home Media magazine reported on Tuesday. A year ago, it noted, all new major studio DVD releases came out more than four months after their theatrical launch. On Tuesday, Warner Bros.’ Due Date came out on DVD and Blu-ray three months and 17 days after its debut in theaters and DreamWorks Animation’s Megamind came out three months and 20 days after its theatrical bow. On March 1, the trade publication observed, all major studio releases on DVD and Blu-ray will hit just three months and five days after their theatrical debuts.
