James Franco insists he’s not putting his career on the line by co-hosting the Academy Awards show with Anne Hathaway this month. In an interview with Vanity Fair magazine, Franco said, “Look, they know we’re not Billy Crystal or Chris Rock. They’re not asking us because they’re expecting that. The show is going to be designed for what we can do.” Franco did not spell out just how the producers are designing the production for him and Hathaway, but he insisted that the two of them are only instruments in the overall ensemble. “If it’s the worst Oscars ever, who cares? It’s like; it’s fine. It’s like one night. It doesn’t matter.” Franco, who himself is nominated in the best actor category, insisted, “I’ll try my best, but I don’t see any shame” in failing, since “It’s just like a movie. … If the movie comes out horrible, it’s only partially my fault. It’s the same thing with Oscars.”
