Director Tom Hooper has let it be known that he does not support plans by The Weinstein Co. to edit The King’s Speech so that it can be rereleased with a PG-13 rating. Last week Harvey Weinstein told the Los Angeles Times, “The British numbers are huge because the rating lets families see the movie together. … Tom and I are trying to find a unique way to do this that keeps his vision of the movie.” But in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hooper said that he would not “support cutting the film in any way. I think we looked at whether it’s possible to bleep out the f***s and stuff, but I’m not going to actually cut that part.” Asked by the magazine whether editing the film wouldn’t broaden the audience for it, Hooper merely reiterated, “I’m not going to cut the film. Whether Weinstein will do on his own remains an open question.
