LIFETIME MURDER DRAMA IS SCORED ON BOTH SIDES OF POND

Lifetime channel’s decision to air tonight’s (Monday) drama based on the murder of British student Meredith Kercher in Perugia, Italy in 2007 has generated international controversy — resulting in a last-minute decision by the channel to remove most of the murder scene from the TV movie. (Parts of the scene had already been included in on-air promos.) John Kercher, Meredith’s father, had described the scene as “absolutely horrific.” Britain’s Sunday Telegraph said that while most of it had been deleted, it nevertheless includes a shot of blood pouring from a wound on the victim’s neck. A spokesman for the family of Amanda Knox, Meredith’s roommate (Amanda was one of three persons convicted of the murder), also objected, saying, “The movie is ill-timed since Amanda’s appeal is under way.”
