After an eight-year absence from filmmaking, legendary director Bernardo Bertolucci (Last Tango in Paris, 1900, The Last Emperor) is planning to return in the fall with a drama using 3D technology. In an interview with Agence France-Presse, the French news agency, on his 71st birthday Wednesday, Bertolucci said, “I want to use 3D in a different way from what we have seen in films like Avatar or other films characterized by special effects. … I want to sit on the flying carpet that this technology offers… I want to use the technology to go even more in depth on the characters.” AFP said that the movie will be based on the Italian novel Me and You (lo e te) by Niccolo Ammaniti, “a story about adolescent love.”
