Many viewers took to Facebook, Twitter, and numerous blogs to complain about the performances of some of the contestants on Wednesday’s performance episode of Fox’s American Idol. Some of them commented that they missed the presence of Simon Cowell doing the same thing. But Cowell, in an interview with Piers Morgan set to air on March 14, said that he “genuinely” believes the show is better without him. “They’ve got their energy back,” he said. In any case, Cowell’s absence appeared to have little effect on the ratings. Wednesday’s two-hour edition attracted 24.24 million viewers, peaking in the final half hour with 25.89 million. CBS valiantly competed, drawing solid numbers especially for Survivor: Redemption Island — 10.94 million. While that number is down from last year when the reality series aired on Thursdays, analysts noted that it did not have to challenge the American Idol steamroller then.
