Following one of their biggest financial downturns ever in 2009, local TV stations experienced a resurgence in ad sales in 2010, thanks in large part to political advertising and the return of auto dealers as big media spenders, according to Kantar Media. The researchers said that local TV stations saw revenue rise to $15.6 billion, up 23.5 percent over 2009. Auto advertising was up 53.7 percent to $2.6 billion. Meanwhile, the broadcast networks saw ad revenue increase 5.7 percent in 2010 to $24.97 billion. The national cable networks recorded a 10.2 percent rise in ad dollars to $21.3 billion.
