It’s certainly not the kind of film that turns up in the competition at the Cannes Film Festival each year, but Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will be screened at this year’s festival, Daily Variety reported today (Wednesday), citing no sources. The trade publication did not disclose a date for the screening. (Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris is due to open the festival on May 11.) Two years ago, the festival opened with the screening of Disney’s Up, which received a cheering ovation. On Stranger Tides is scheduled to open in the U.S. and Canada on May 20. Early today the festival officially announced that Gus Van Sant’s Restless, starring Mia Wasikowska and Henry Hooper, will open the Un Certain Regard section on May 12.
