MAD MEN RERUN RIGHTS BOUGHT BY NETFLIX

April 6, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

For the first time, a major television series will not be rerun on a broadcast or cable-TV outlet after its original telecast; instead it will be made available exclusively to Netflix’s online subscribers. The series is AMC’s Mad Men, produced by Lionsgate, which reportedly will receive between $750,000 and $900,000 per episode from Netflix for the exclusivity. The first four seasons of Mad Men will become available via Netflix’s streaming service on July 27. Each season comprises 13 episodes. While serialized TV dramas like Mad Men ordinarily do not perform well in syndication, consumers buying or renting DVD sets of such series tend to watch them in marathon sessions and have proven to be popular — often more popular than some big-budget movies.
