The so-called Kennedy Curse may have hit ReelzChannel, the company that picked up The Kennedys miniseries after the History Channel dropped it and after it was rejected by other cable channels as well. On Tuesday it said that the show’s two-hour premiere (the first two episodes), which aired on Sunday night, attracted 1.9 million — big numbers for a cable outlet and ones that it publicized extensively. It turned out, however, that the premiere actually was watched by 1.3 million viewers and that the channel had combined that number with the 600,000 who watched the first repeat. There was more bad news for the channel on Wednesday, when it learned that the third hour of the series averaged 841,000 viewers, a drop of 35 percent, for its first airing. Two repeats brought the figure up to 1.7 million.
