NETFLIX DENIES IT’S PLANNING TO CREATE SHOWS FOR STREAMING

Netflix has denied a New York Post report that it is likely to begin producing original shows and stream them to its subscribers. Netflix Vice President Steve Swasey told USA Today that it has no interest doing so. “Netflix isn’t going to be producing shows” he said. “It’s not the company’s core competency, and it won’t be doing that.” As for its recent deal to buy rights to stream Kevin Spacey’s House of Cards, Swasey said that it had only bought exclusive rights to stream the series, while all other rights were retained by the show’s production company. In a related development, Netflix has signed a streaming deal with Miramax, thereby allowing it to bring some 500 additional titles to its service.
