It didn’t have the penultimate edition of Dancing with the Stars as a lead-in, but ABC’s two-hour The Bachelorette nevertheless drew solid ratings Monday night. With an average of 7.1 million viewers — peaking in the final half hour with nearly 8 million — the show walloped mostly rerun competition from the other major networks. ABC also drew similar ratings for its new Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition, which followed at 10:00 p.m. In fact, ratings for the new show actually increased slightly in the second half hour. The only other new show to air Monday night was NBC’s Law and Order: Criminal Intent (actually the episode had aired previously on cable’s USA Network). It finished third in the 9:00 p.m. hour with 5.21 million viewers. A repeat of the canceled Law & Order: Los Angeles followed with 6.47 million viewers. CBS, which once dominated Monday nights — even in repeats — struggled to remain in second place as it averaged 5.48 million viewers, only slightly ahead of NBC’s 5.17 million. Fox was a distant fourth with 3.32 million viewers.
