The judging panel for the U.K. edition of Simon Cowell’s The X Factor was announced on Monday — and not only was Cheryl Cole’s name not listed; she was not even mentioned by anyone connected with the show. Those named include Gary Barlow of the British pop group Take That; Tulisa Contostavlos of the U.K. hip hop group No-Dubz; Kelly Rowland of Destiny’s Child; and Louis Walsh. who created and managed the British boy bands Boyzone and Westlife. While Cowell has taken himself off the judging panel in Britain in order to devote his attention to starting up the U.S. version, he made it clear in a statement that he was involved in the choices of the panel and will continue to be active in the show’s production. “These four are totally up for it. Each of them bring a different attitude,” Cowell said. “They have had a ton of hits between them and they are all committed to finding a star.” Meanwhile, the Daily Mail reported today that the U.K. producers had planned to invite Cole to return but that she could not be reached. “That’s it,” a source connected with the show told the newspaper. “People have been trying to speak to her and persuade her this would be a good idea, but she’s been uncontactable. … And you can’t exactly negotiate with someone who won’t even speak to you.”
