Netflix may be rethinking its current strategy of phasing out disc rentals and moving towards an all-streaming service. As reported by Home Media magazine, Netflix CFO David Wells told an investors conference in New York on Wednesday that Netflix plans to refocus its attention on disc rentals. “We’re looking down the road at both re-energizing DVD functions and paying a little bit more attention to it, or at least stop really de-emphasizing it,” Wells said. His comment is in stark contrast to that of Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, who said last October, “By every measure, we are now primarily a streaming company that also offers DVD-by-mail.” Last year, Netflix launched in Canada, where it does not even offer disc rentals. The streaming-only service, Hastings told today’s (Thursday) Los Angeles Times, “was a huge success for us in Canada; it continues to grow rapidly.”
