OBAMA’S SPEECH ON AFGHANISTAN NOT A BIG DRAW — FOR HIM

June 24, 2011 by · 2 Comments

President Obama’s 15-minute address to the nation on Afghanistan Wednesday night was watched by 25 million viewers on nine networks, Nielsen Research reported on Thursday. It was the smallest audience for any Obama address during his presidency. (His announcement of the death of Osama bin Laden last month drew 56.5 million viewers despite the fact that it aired after 11:30 p.m.) Networks carrying the speech included the broadcast networks ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox, as well as cable networks CNN, Fox Business Network, Fox News Channel, MSNBC, and TF. Most cable viewers caught it on Fox News, which drew 2.3 million viewers, versus 965,000 for MSNBC and 874,000 on CNN. A breakdown of ratings for the speech — alone — among the broadcast networks (i.e. 8:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.) was not immediately released.
