Netflix’s decision to increase the subscription price for its users of both the DVD-by-mail and streaming services will result in a loss of more than 15 percent of its customers, according to a study by Frisco, TX-based research firm The Diffusion Group (TDG) and reported on Tuesday by Home Media magazine. In addition, the study indicated that 44 percent of Netflix subscribers who currently received both DVDs by mail and use the streaming service are likely to cancel the mail service while 34 percent are likely to cancel the streaming service. According to Home Media, Netflix’s own studies indicated a similar drop but found that many of the subscribers who are likely to cancel in the third quarter are likely to return in the fourth.
