Just when you were thinking that audiences have had their fill of 3D, it’s being reported that a Korean company is screening 4D movies with solid success. Britain’s Guardian newspaper says that the company, CJ 4DPlex, has refurbished theaters with vibrating and moving seats, wind machines, strobe lights, and devices that deliver scents throughout the theater. (A burnt-rubber smell was used during one scene in Transformers: Dark of the Moon, for example.) Tickets for the 4D movies are selling for around $16.00 each, and apparently they’re being snapped up at such a rate that CJ 4DPlex is now building three more 4D theaters in Korea — these ones, it is said, with seats that bend backwards and lift into the air.
