Without fanfare, Netflix has begun offering unlimited DVD-only rentals for $7.99 per month. Home Media magazine observed that the company, which had appeared to be moving towards an all-streaming system, has been receiving complaints from subscribers who have no interest in streaming; the new plan reportedly represents an effort to placate them. “Netflix launched a DVD plan for $7.99 as a further terrific value for the folks who want only DVDs,” the company said in a statement. The magazine quoted Netflix CFO David Wells as saying, “We’re looking down the road at both re-energizing DVD functions and paying a little bit more attention to it, or at least stop really de-emphasizing it.” The company offers another $7.99 plan that allows limited rentals of both physical DVDs and streaming.
