Analysts are predicting a tight race at the box office this weekend between two blockbusters, as Captain America makes its debut and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 goes into its second week. According to box-office gurus, each film is expected to earn around $60 million. While several forecasters give Deathly Hallows the edge, given its record-breaking opening last week, others suggest that that big opening cold be the reason that it falls to Captain America this weekend. Today’s (Friday) Los Angeles Times commented: “Because so many fans rushed out to see the movie immediately, it’s unclear just how big the drop-off in receipts will be during its second weekend in release.” Also opening this weekend is the Sony/Screen Gems romcom Friends with Benefits, which ought to bring in around $25-30 million, a solid number given the fact that it didn’t cost much more than that to produce.
