Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 made an impressive debut in China where it earned $25.5 million in about 4,200 theaters over the weekend. The Chinese haul kept the Potter finale ahead overseas, where it is now playing in 61 countries, for the fourth weekend in a row. Its worldwide total now stands at $1.13 billion, making it the third highest-grossing movie of all time, behind Avatar and Titanic. Taking second place in 42 countries was The Smurfs with $45.2 million. Playing in 441 countries, Captain America: The First Avenger placed third on the foreign list with $27.5 million, while Rise of the Planet of the Apes debuted in 26 countries with $23.4 million. (It won’t be released in Europe’s top three markets, the U.K., Germany, and France, until next weekend.) Rounding out the top five was Disney/Pixar’s Cars 2, which earned $20.1 million, bringing its worldwide total to date to $443.1 million.
