U.S. audiences will have to wait until November 25 to see it, but The Inbetweeners set a U.K. box-office record for a British-made comedy over the weekend when it debuted with $21.8 million (including previews on Wednesday and Thursday). The film broke a record for a U.K. comedy set in 2004 by Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. It amounts to a concluding episode of a hit British sitcom in which a group of teenage friends go off on vacation to Malia, the wild Greek resort on the island of Crete. The series, which aired for three seasons beginning in 2008, had also set ratings records for E4, the British digital channel, when it drew 3.7 million viewers for an episode that aired on October 11 last year.
