Travelers on Southwest Airlines flights will soon be able to watch live Major League Baseball games on their smartphones, laptops and iPads as the result of a deal between the airline and in-flight wi-fi service Row 44. In a statement, the company said that it will have the capability to stream 2,400 MLB telecasts per season via satellite to Southwest’s passengers. If their home team’s game is not being televised, passengers will be able to access the local radio broadcast of it. In a statement, Bob Bowman, CEO of Major League Baseball Advanced Media, said, “Our partnership with Row 44 is reflective of a continued commitment to finding innovative ways to serve the millions of baseball fans seeking to connect with their favorite teams on their own personal devices, no matter where they happen to be.” So far, Southwest is the only U.S. airline installing Row 44’s satellite-based broadband service.
