DREAMWORKS ANIMATION TO MAKE FILMS FOR CHINESE MARKET

September 15, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

In an apparent effort to counteract Chinese policies that permit no more than 20 foreign-made films from being screened on the mainland annually, DreamWorks Animation is considering the possibility of developing a production studio in Shanghai that would produce films specifically for the Chinese market, according to a report first published by the French news agency, Agence France-Presse. The Wall Street Journal said today (Thursday) that DreamWorks is using an executive recruitment firm to find a CEO for the Chinese operation. A DreamWorks Animation spokesperson would only acknowledge that the studio is continuing to explore opportunities in China, adding, “Any further speculation is premature.”
