The popular Internet Movie Database (IMDb), which claims that its iPhone and iPad app has already been installed on 15 million devices since 2009 and its Android app on 10 million more since 2010, has launched a new movie and TV trivia app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. In a statement, IMDb founder and CEO Col Needham said, “We created this game in response to a clear customer need: IMDb trivia pages receive more than 100 million page views annually; IMDb users spend more than 4 million hours on’s trivia pages per year.” Its initial trivia game apps (Hollywood Hits, Sneak Peek, TV Favorites, Family Movies and Blockbuster Films) are available beginning today (Tuesday) in Apple’s iTunes Store. After users exhaust those, they can win more with points for high scores or by buying them for 99 cents. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter Needham suggested that the games can help transform users into experts on the movie and TV businesses. “Game play is very suited for helping the brain remember things,” he said. “It makes you feel smarter about entertainment.”
