FAST FIVE DEBUTS AT NO. 1 ON DVD SALES CHART

October 13, 2011 by · 1 Comment

Universal’s Fast Five raced ahead of the competition, debuting in first place on Nielsen VideoScan First Alert’s DVD sales chart for last week. (The chart does not provide actual sales figures.) Hot on its heels, however, was Disney’s re-release of The Lion King: Diamond Edition, which was still being shown in theaters (in 3D) last week. According to Home Media magazine, Lion King sold 79.1 percent as many discs as Fast Five, but the animated movie was only available on Blu-ray disc, while Fast Five was available on both standard DVD and Blu-ray. In its second week on the sales chart, Transformers: Dark of the Moon slipped to third place. On Home Media‘s rental chart it remained No. 1, likely a reflection of the fact that Universal does not make its movies available to Netflix and Redbox, the country’s largest video rental companies, until four weeks after they are released in retail stores.
