Ricky Gervais may host next year’s Golden Globes Awards after all. Unofficially, that is. Writing in the Wall Street Journal’s “Speakeasy” blog, Gervais said that he is working with an unnamed “Californian” technology company so that people can listen to his unedited comments about the awards while they’re watching them. “This is not to steal anyone’s thunder, or disrupt pleasant society. It’s simply a new horizon. And for its own sake” — presumably meaning that he won’t be making any money this this time around. That’s something he doesn’t care about, he remarked. He’d be doing it “for a laugh. There are not many better reasons to do anything.” Of course, he did last year’s hosting “for a laugh” also, and members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association didn’t join in the laughter. “Maybe it was the fact that I introduced their president by saying that I’d ‘just helped him off the toilet and popped his teeth in?’ I don’t know, but it’s their party and they should be able to invite who they want.”
