ROKU MOVES PORN FROM PC TO TV

October 19, 2011 by · 2 Comments

What with reports indicating that nearly half of all online users have intentionally accessed pornography websites, that it accounts for 12 percent of all online visits and 35 percent of all downloads and that revenue from porn comes to nearly $100 billion a year, more than the combined earnings of Yahoo, Apple, NetFlix, Microsoft, Google, Amazon and eBay, it was perhaps unsurprising that settop box maker Roku would add the adult-content aggregator FyreTV to its lineup, bringing its offerings to TV sets. Home Media magazine reported the deal between Roku and FyreTV on Tuesday, noting that the two companies are handling it discretely, without so much as issuing a press release. But the trade publication XbizWorld provided some details: FyreTV will offer titles from more than 100 porn producers. FyreTV marketing chief Josh Stevens told the publication: “Unlike other adult apps with limited libraries and functionality, our Roku channel offers full access to our complete library. I’d put our channel up against just about any mainstream movie service offered by Roku.”
