REPORT: BRIAN GRAZER TO REPLACE BRET RATNER AS OSCAR CO-PRODUCER

Just one day after Brett Ratner resigned under pressure as co-producer of next year’s Oscar telecast, the motion picture academy has struck a deal with Brian Grazer — himself an Oscar winner for 2001’s A Beautiful Mind — to replace him, TheWrap.com reported today (Wednesday). An official announcement is expected to be made on Thursday, the website said, citing an individual with knowledge of Grazer’s status. The academy is presumably also moving quickly to find a replacement for Eddie Murphy, who withdrew as host following Ratner’s departure. Topping the list of those likely to take over hosting duties is Billy Crystal, who, before Murphy’s selection, had made it known that he’d be interested in returning to the Oscar podium. Other likely candidates include Whoopi Goldberg, Ellen DeGeneres, Tina Fey, Jon Stewart, Hugh Jackman, and Neil Patrick Harris.
