Daniel Radcliffe says that he felt disheartened when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2 was not nominated for a best picture Oscar. In an interview with the BBC’s Radio Times magazine, Radcliffe said, “I never thought I’d care. But it would’ve been nice to have some recognition.” The 22-year-old actor attributed the slight to “a certain amount of snobbery” on the part of the Oscar voters, who, he said, don’t “like commercial films, or kids’ films, unless they’re directed by Martin Scorsese. I was watching Hugo the other day and going, ‘Why is this nominated and we’re not?’ I was slightly miffed.” In a separate interview with today’s (Thursday) Hollywood Reporter, Radcliffe expressed relief that audiences appeared to accept him in a non-Potter role. His The Woman in Black exceeded forecasts last weekend, earning $20.8 million, despite competition from the Super Bowl game. “It’s a joy to be doing something totally different from Harry Potter, and really thrilling,” he told the Reporter. “What’s encouraging is there does seem to be a genuine interest in me. There’s a curiosity about what I want to do.”
