A week after a report by Reuters claimed that Uggie was being snubbed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (no invitation to the red carpet or to the theater itself) and denied rumors that he would appear in a sketch with Billy Crystal, Deadline.com columnist Pete Hammond is reporting that the Jack Russell terrier has already taped his appearance with Crystal and that he is appearing on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show each night this week to predict the winners in the top categories. Meanwhile, one of Uggie’s trainers, Sarah Clifford, is complaining that his best scene in The Artist landed on the cutting-room floor. “There was a take in the scene where Jean [Dujardin] holds a gun up to his head when Uggie actually reached out and tried to pull the gun out of his hand with his mouth. Uggie put his mouth on Jean’s hand and started pulling his hand,” Clifford told Reuters. “We were so stunned. He wasn’t told to do that by us. I cried like an idiot. … I feel that because Jean was trembling, Uggie felt he was in danger and was truly trying to stop him hurting himself.” She added: “I don’t know why they didn’t use that take. I hope it makes the outtakes.”
