In its second week, Universal’s Safe House continued to surprise — earning an estimated $24 million over the first three days of the Presidents Day weekend. Universal figures it should earn $28.5 million through Monday. As it did on its opening weekend, Safe House edged out Sony’s The Vow, which took in about $23.6 million over the three days and is expected to gross $27.4 million through Monday. Coming in third was the debuting Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, also from Sony, which is likely to earn $22 million over the regular weekend and $25.5 million through Monday. Another film making a strong showing in its second week was Warner Bros./New Line’s Journey 2: The Mysterious Island with $22.1 million over the three days (no four-day estimate). Also making its debut this weekend, Fox’s This Means War rounded out the top five with around $17.55 million for three days (no four-day estimate).
